RescueTime is definitively a good way to manage not only billing hours but get a honest view of all the time wasted in non productive things.

Block Distractions and Get Focused

RescueTime Focus Mode allows you to voluntarily block the distracting parts of the internet for a period of time you specify. RescueTime will enforce this focus-- it's a firm commitment. Sites are automagically categorized as distracting, but you have the power to recategorize things if you need to.

Tracking example

Automated Time Tracking

RescueTime sits in the background and measures which application, web site or (optionally) document is actively being used. What and when you track time is up to you. You can pause tracking, set up automated scheduling, or selectively delete tracked data.

Automated Project Tracking (New!)

Tracking example

Say goodbye to timesheets as you know them! Why meticulously (but not always accurately) document individual tasks when RescueTime can do it for you? Projects are tracked by keyword matching and you can manually assign blocks of your day to specific projects and let RescueTime fill in the details. If you forget to assign project time, RescueTime gives you an easy overview of your time to help you fill in the blanks.

Powerful Reports & Analytics - how you spend your time & attention

Tracking example

RescueTime can show you a wide variety of reports and gives you a rich dashboard showing the data that's important to you. See the top apps and sites for a week, see how email time ebbs and flows throughout the day, see which days of the week are you most productive, and see how you compare to the average RescueTime user. Everyone thinks they are more efficient than the average person but (obviously) half of us are wrong! Are you?

Nudge yourself when you get too distracted

Just knowing how you spend your time is often motivating, but RescueTime allows you to provide more active motivation for yourself. You can set soft limits and get alerted or set up rules to block categories of sites if you exceed your targets.

Track meetings, calls, and offline work

Tracking meetings, calls, and other non-computer work is important. When your machine goes idle, a message pops up asking you what you've been up to (you can configure these options however you see fit).
