Virtually every manager understands the benefit of timesheets. They provide accountability and give the manager an understanding of what people are doing on the team. But timesheets are extraordinarily expensive in terms of time, money, and morale.... And manual timesheet data is often only valuable if it's in an easily analyzable format for the manager.
For all of the effort required, they can be wildly inaccurate-- many people embellish manual timesheet or have trouble remembering how they really spent their time at the end of the day or week.
Enter RescueTime Automated Timesheets. RescueTime provides an hour-by-hour breakdown of how an individual spends their time in a given day, with the power to "zoom out" to the entire team or a broader time-frame.

And, of course all productive time isn't on the computer. Productive time can happen in conference rooms, on the phone, or hunched over a pad of paper away from the computer. To "fill in the blanks" (the time where there's no time being logged on the computer), RescueTime offers a single-click prompt to capture this time. When team members are away from their computer for a specific period of time, they return to a prompt asking them what they've been up to (you can configure RescueTime for whatever options are best for your team).
| Sample Timesheet View |
 |
The Timesheet View can show the entire group/company or it can show data from just one user.
- The graph on the timesheet view shows the "flow" over time for 1 or more categories, apps, or sites. Here you see "dev tools" (teal), "email" (purple), "other communication" (orange), with everything else represented as a light gray.
- These controls allow you to select what categories you'd like to overlay on top of your (light gray) total time. You can have up to 5 overlays.
- The data table below the graph shows a classic "timesheet" view with an hour by hour breakdown of how time was spent for the individual or group you are viewing.
